Dr. Hirano graduated from Kanazawa University in 1998 and graduated from the Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kanazawa University in 2004. He received surgical training at Kanazawa University and its affiliated hospitals. In 2006, He was a postdoctoral fellow of the Department of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Misericordia Hospital, Grosseto, Italy for 1 year. He is currently working as a professor at the Department of Gastroenterological Surgery, Saitama Medical University International Medical Center.

Dr. Hirano specializes in single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) for colorectal lesions and has experience with over 1000 cases. He is widely recognized as one of the foremost surgeons who have a high skill in SILS for colorectal cancer. Today, he is also engaged in the development of standardized surgical procedures for colorectal cancer with the Senhance robotic system.

Dr. Hirano has contributed to scientific journals and congresses and received many best presentation awards, including a Best Poster Award at the 14th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, a Best Poster Award at the 20th International EAES Congress Society and a Best Poster Award at Japan Digestive Disease Week 2013.
