Professor Bruno Märkl is Head of the Institute of Pathology and Molecular Pathology at the University Clinic Augsburg. He is Full Professor of general and specific Pathology of the Medical Faculty of the University Augsburg (Germany). Professor Märkl studied medicine at the Technical University Munich and at the Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich (Germany) and obtained his degree in Medicine in 1999. He acquired the venia legendi for pathology in 2011 was appointed Associate Professor in 2017 at the Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich. Since 2019 he is Full Professor at the University Augsburg.
Professor Märkl is Board Member of the Interdisciplinary Cancer Center Augsburg and Director of the Augsburg Biobank. After establishing a scientific program at the Institute of Pathology in Augsburg in 2007, he published almost 100 articles in many international journals, including leading pathology journals like Modern Pathology, American Journal of Surgical Pathology, and Acta Neuropathologica.
Clinically, he represents the entire subject of Pathology. His scientific focus is the gastrointestinal pathology. He has been dealing with the development of methods to improve the lymph node staging in GI cancers, the immune response to cancer, the plasminogen system in cancer, and tumor cell migration.
