TY - JOUR AU - Lou, Johanna AU - Taylor, George AU - Arbzadeh, Elham AU - Ross, Howard PY - 2018 TI - Multifocal rectal carcinoid tumor: a case report and literature review JF - Digestive Medicine Research; Vol 1 (October 2018): Digestive Medicine Research Y2 - 2018 KW - N2 - Multifocal rectal carcinoid tumors are extremely rare, with an incidence of 2% to 4.5% of all rectal carcinoid tumors. Over the past 35 years, the age-adjusted incidence of rectal carcinoids has increased 800–1,000%, likely due to the increased use and availability of screening flexible sigmoidoscopies and colonoscopies. We report the case of a 55-year-old male who presented with multifocal rectal carcinoid tumor despite multiple colonoscopic resections, eventually necessitating lower anterior resection.
